You Absolute Fucks

The Xbox Series X came out five years ago.
How dare you.
The ways this makes me sick
Video games are a reprieve, not a reminder.
We buy your consoles, play your games, to escape our reality. We give you–a giant megacorp–money and in return you give us reprieve. We believe it is a fair exchange that we voluntarily line your pockets so we can have a break from involuntarily lining everyone else's.
The number of people this passed through without resistance is staggering.
The betrayal is impossible to overstate.
But there's also something bleak underneath. For a long time I thought I was naïve for wanting to be uncompromising - on quality, it turns out. I don't believe that anymore.
The statement "the world is less principled than it used to be" cannot be naïve. It is descriptive.
The absence of an autoimmune reaction at Microsoft to prevent this proves to me that white-collar workers–at least in tech–are no longer interested in work as a source of pride.
The only thing left to sell is air.
